Emerald Shears is designed to aid in building your confidence in taking the TDLR exams. This is done by helping you discover the subjects you need to improve upon while re-enforcing your existing knowledge. You will be able to step into personalized exams based on your assessed needs to become more comfortable during the exam experience.

What is Emerald Shears for?
While the Emerald Shears was designed for Texas Students, the knowledge contained within is universal to the Cosmetology and Barber industries. If you are not a Texas student, review information that is specific to Texas (Rules and Regulations) are omitted as to not effect your review process.

Most students choose to start practicing written exams about 60 days before their exam date, but not all students are the same, and only you know yourself. If you feel you need more time to study, start 90 days before your exam. If you are a quick learner you may only need 30 days. If you are unsure on what to do and want a second opinion, we suggest you talk with your instructor to get their opinion before making a decision.

The Exam Interface
The Emerald Shears Exam offers an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant interface. By doing so, this boosts your confidence during the exam and helps lower test anxiety, a major cause of lower exam results.
The most important features of the Emerald Shears Exam Interface are the ability to change colors, font size of the questions and answers, and an audio reader of the text. These features are designed to better suite your needs based on web guidelines provided by ADA experts.
For those who struggle with Dyslexia and similar disabilities, you know how important this can be.
This includes the button colors as well as the color of the text inside the button.
The TDLR State Board Exams administered by PSI are not ADA Compliant at this time. This is only a feature of Emerald Shears to help you become more relaxed during the Exam experiance.
In the Exam Demo below, you can use the Yellow Font Size button to cycle the text through 3 different sizes.
The Gray Speaker button is an ADA feature that provides you the ability to have Emerald Shears read the associated text to you. This simulates the experience of a "Reader" during the TDLR exam.
